Einmal im Leben eine Safari machen

Once in a Lifetime…

This dream had been dormant inside us for a very long time. Following extensive research and planning last year, the moment finally arrived this year: we were off!

We chose January for our trip—one of the absolute best times for a safari. While the peak travel season for Tanzania is the long dry season in summer, it gets incredibly crowded then. That is why we opted for January, the low season. We were absolutely thrilled back then, and we still are today.

January brings the short dry season, shortly before the rains return. However, this dry period isn’t long enough to scorch the earth, meaning the landscape still presents itself in a delicate, vibrant green. During this short dry season, you also encounter far fewer issues with mosquitoes. We had been told that the best protection against malaria is simply not to be bitten, and choosing this timing perfectly supported that.

Since December, countless foals and calves have been born across the massive herds. Lush green grass, fresh leaves in the trees, abundant waterholes, and plenty of afterbirths provide ample food for all the animals. For a brief moment, nature reveals itself as a remarkably harmonious wildlife kingdom.

Great Migration and Big Five

This timing allowed us to experience the Great Migration firsthand, see the Big Five, and immerse ourselves in a uniquely rich and diverse ecosystem.

The fact that this safari turned into such a wonderful experience is something we owe above all to the incredible people involved:

  • Kilimandscharo Safari Tours, who were responsible for the seamless execution on-site in Tanzania.

  • Elliewaha, affectionately known as Elly, who was our guide for ten days. Truly the best guide ever!

  • The fantastic teams in the lodges and camps, and most notably the team at Olaado Camp. They served the best clear chicken soup ever and were incredibly helpful.

We are deeply grateful for the nature, the animals, and the people we met. Now, we invite you to join us on this journey. Each new travel report will share more insights from this very special adventure.

„The best Guide ever“
„The best clear Chicken soup ever and so helpful“.
